This temple is one of the more than 1,200 temples scattered about in the Kingdom of Cambodia. a country that is dubbed by the CNN as The Kingdom of Wonders.
Recently a team of Khmer and foreign archaeologists, photographers and TV crew discovered the lost City of Mahendrabarvatra, meaning the Mountain of the Great Indra, which was the First Capital of the Great Khmer Empire of Angkor on top of the Kulen [Litchi] Mountain, a popular call for the Mahendrabarvatra. The City was built by Khmer King Jayavarman II, the Founder of The Khmer Empire of Angkor 350 years prior to Angkor Wat.
Although Cambodia has seen its territories shrunk from the vast Khmer Empire of some 2 million square kilometers 12 centuries back to the current area of 181,035 sq-km, the kingdom has more than 1,200 temples of different sizes discovered. And this said, the Khmer temples believed to be hundreds in number on the territories of Laos (such as the Temple of Wat Phu in Champasak province) and the temple of Phimai in Korat, Thailand, among others are not included.
